Important Keys To Succeed At Your Exams
When it comes to exams, it’s common to see people worried that they may not perform well, or the exams would be too difficult to handle and the biggest of all is the fear of repeating the whole year (in some countries) or the whole semester. It’s quiet frustrating when you see that your efforts may not pay off or even worse, you may disappoint people around. Yes, I know. I’ve been there before. And I can tell you I perfectly understand it. While thing like that, we forget that we were able to survive loads of homework and assignments. What a contrast! Well, it all depends on the way you see exams in general. It’s true that you don’t know what will come at the exams, but there is no reason to fear them either. Let me tell something, exams are very easy. Actually, they just cover program in just a tricky way and yet, they put fear in us more than anything else. The main reason for this is that students are not well trained in how to handle and see exams as a way to build confidence in them and prepare them for more challenging projects or jobs that they will have to handle in their future job. Exams are just an overview of what is to come. Your readiness to take and handle your projects in the future sometimes depends on your readiness and ability to write your exams today. Exams themselves are yet another challenge with the aim of testing you; not frightening you. Therefore, it would be advantageous for you to take it as such. A lot of good methods are available to help you in this journey, but in this article, we are discussing 5 of them to make your life easy.
1. You Have To Train Your Mind To Success
The best way to tackle any challenge is to see it as an opportunity to either gain knowledge or show your skills. Why? Because this is the most effective way to Succeed. A friend of mine told me that when he thinks that he will have good marks in assessments or any class tests, he actually gets good marks. Anytime he thinks that he can make it, he really makes it. Of course, we are all like that, maybe we do it differently, but one thing is sure, when you know your subject, nothing can prevent you from succeeding.
2. Carefully Read Your Notes
Well, this is another point that needs careful devotion. It’s true that if you don’t read to know and understand your notes, you won’t succeed. But don’t panic. How about being focused in class? Yes. This is the best option. Put your phone or laptop aside and stay focused during classes. If you understand up to 60% of everything being explained in class, that’s great. Coming back to your notes will be like a refresher. But if you are part of the category that only understands 30% to 40% (like me), you’ve got work to do: read your notes…carefully. This works pretty much because most of what you will encounter will seem like a deja vue, and it will sound easier to grasp. Reading your notes is something everybody is comfortable doing alone, it’s worth it. Put your notes into groups: topics, chapters… then put them into smaller sections and set yourself a particular goal for each section. Jot down the main points and try to remember their explanation. It doesn’t always need to be accurate, but it’s a good start. I would prefer you to use a piece of paper for that (or you can do it as you wish). When you are stuck somewhere, revisit your notes then continue. If a concept is difficult and it is extremely important, you can abbreviate its definition and memorize it by their initials. For example, “Decisions Can Be Made Quickly But Their Outcome Might Not Be Welcome” can be "DCBMQBTOMNBW". You have the option of jumping prepositions and articles. Once you’re done with this step, then you’re ready for the next step.
3. Self-assessment
Now it’s time to test your knowledge. This should be the immediate thing to do right after reading your notes. While your memory is still fresh, make sure you get yourself some exercises to do. You can do it in two ways: Create questions yourself related to what you have just read, or redo all your past exercises and assignments, even those in which you scored high grades. Once you’ve finished that, you can get some more exercises like the ones not touched during classes, or problems that are at the end of the book. It’s quiet a lot, but it’s worth it. Next, you will want to join a group.
4. Join A Group
Unfortunately, some topics might not be as easy as you would expect them to be, so the need to set up a group is highly recommended. Many advantages are attached to it. A group includes a variety of people with different sets of knowledge. If you are good at math, but fail to understand psychology, then you know that someone with that knowledge will fit in. Your ability of choosing the members will guarantee how successful you will be. Also, your group members can bring more clarification or further explanation on a particular topic which was briefly spoken about by the lecturer (or teacher). After each session, make sure everyone is fully equipped to handle any exercise related to the treated topic.
5. Treat Past Exams
Last but not least, get hold of past exams or questions and solve them. This is the best of all. I know people who only focus on this to be successful. It isn’t good practice to do that even though it works. Remember, you go to college to learn, not to write exams. Exams are nothing but preparations for real-world jobs ahead. The best way is to know and understand your class lessons. Once you done with that, there’s nothing that can stop you from getting excellent grades and be successful.
That’s a lot, I know, but by so doing, you will see your success. With these 5 free keys you will be able to perform well in your exams, I am very confident that you will do well. It is your turn now to follow these keys for greater results.
